From the Little Acorn to the Big Apple

friends, food, and fitness

About March 4, 2009

Hi! We are Allison & Joanna. We are post college 20-somethings trying to live healthy, balanced, active lives.  We also have a passion for running!

Here is an excerpt from our first post that sums us up: “We have been thinking of starting this for a really long time…and for some reason today it all clicked! We have been inspired by the many, many, many foodie/fitness blogs out there. Since we are currently training together for our first half marathon (on April 26, 2009) we wanted to share our training experience and fuel (aka FOOD) choices with you all.

I hope you like the name! Here is our history: we both went to Elon University in NC. We joined the same sorority, but were only together for a year when Joanna decided to quit. It was okay though, because we had barely known each other anyway, so no hard feelings . But, as fate would have it Joanna moved up to NYC in Sept. ‘07 and Allison followed in the summer of ‘08. Allison ended up being interviewed by Joanna for her current job! Needless to say Allison was hired, and the rest is history.

But, back to the name…”Elon” means “acorn” and was a very important symbol throughout our years in college. And of course, you all know the Big Apple is the great NYC….so there you have it: “From the Little Acorn to the Big Apple”!”
